The Lebanese community in Canada continues to strengthen its cultural and social presence through its annual festivals, which over the decades have become important gatherings for Lebanese Canadians while introducing Canadian society to Lebanon's rich heritage.

The 36th Ottawa Lebanese Festival, hosted by St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral in Canada's capital, Ottawa, concluded with broad participation from members of the Lebanese community, as well as religious, diplomatic, official, and community figures.

Held from July 15 to 19, the festival is considered one of the most prominent Lebanese events in Canada and among the largest Lebanese festivals in North America. Each year, it attracts thousands of visitors from diverse cultural backgrounds, offering a vibrant showcase of Lebanese cuisine, folklore, dabke performances, music, arts, and family-friendly activities.

The opening ceremony was attended by members of the clergy, representatives of the diplomatic corps, political, cultural, social, and media figures, as well as representatives of Lebanese and Canadian associations and institutions, reflecting the active and influential presence of the Lebanese community in the Canadian capital.

According to the organizers, the festival is far more than a cultural celebration. It serves as a cultural and human bridge between Lebanon and Canada, introducing Canadian society to the richness of Lebanon's heritage and the values of openness, hospitality, and diversity, while highlighting the positive contributions of the Lebanese community to Canadian public life.

The festival's success, the organizers noted, relies on the dedication of more than 400 volunteers, who contribute every year across all aspects of the event from welcoming visitors and coordinating activities to food preparation and logistical support demonstrating the community's strong spirit of volunteerism and cooperation.

Now in its 36th year, the Ottawa Lebanese Festival has firmly established itself as one of the leading events bringing together Lebanese Canadians while offering younger generations an opportunity to reconnect with their heritage and giving Canadian visitors a window into Lebanon's vibrant culture and traditions.

The festival is part of a broader calendar of cultural initiatives organized by Lebanese communities across Canada, reflecting their ongoing commitment to preserving their Lebanese identity while strengthening their cultural presence within Canadian society.
