The Lebanese American Commission for Democracy (LACD) concluded a series of activities in Washington, D.C., which included a visit to Capitol Hill and meetings in the offices of several members of the U.S. Congress, as well as participation in the 40th Annual Dinner of the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL). The activities were part of the organization’s efforts to strengthen engagement with U.S. officials and policymakers and to keep issues concerning Lebanon and the Lebanese American community present in Washington.

As part of the visit, LACD Coordinator George Moussa held a series of meetings with officials and advisers in several congressional offices, where he presented LACD’s key priorities concerning Lebanon and delivered a policy paper outlining the organization’s positions on a range of political, economic, and reform-related issues.

The paper addressed support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, strengthening state institutions, ensuring that weapons remain exclusively under state authority, safeguarding Lebanon’s sovereignty, and the withdrawal of foreign military forces from Lebanese territory. It also called for strengthening the strategic partnership between Lebanon and the United States.

The document also addressed economic and financial reforms and anti-corruption efforts, banking sector reform and the recovery of depositors’ funds, government reform and decentralization, the safe and dignified return of Syrian refugees, as well as stronger participation and representation of Lebanese expatriates in the democratic process.

LACD said its meetings on Capitol Hill were part of its efforts to strengthen engagement with U.S. officials and policymakers and to convey its positions on issues concerning Lebanon and the Lebanese American community.

As another part of the Washington visit, Moussa attended the 40th Annual Dinner of the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL), held at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C., on September 24, 2026, with the participation of figures and representatives from American and Lebanese American circles.

Participation in the dinner provided another opportunity during LACD’s Washington visit to engage with Lebanese American individuals, institutions, and organizations.

LACD reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its engagement in the United States, strengthening ties with American and Lebanese American institutions, and keeping issues concerning Lebanon and the Lebanese community present in discussions with officials and policymakers.
